At Harnick Orthodontics, we’re proud to continue a family legacy of exceptional orthodontic care in Albuquerque. Founded by Dr. David Harnick, our practice is now led by his daughter, Dr. Kari Harnick Graeber, who brings a fresh perspective and unwavering commitment to patient-centered treatment.
Born and raised in Albuquerque, Dr. Kari is passionate about helping patients of all ages achieve their best smiles. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of New Mexico, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Kari then pursued her dental degree at the University of the Pacific-Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, where she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Tau Kappa Omega honor societies.
Following in her father’s footsteps, she completed her orthodontic residency at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, where she also earned her Master’s in Dentistry. To provide patients with the best possible orthodontic care, Dr. Kari completed hundreds of additional hours and training to become a Board-Certified Orthodontist by the American Board of Orthodontists (ABO) in 2018. As your Albuquerque orthodontist, Dr. Kari combines advanced clinical expertise with a warm, personalized approach to care.
Outside the office, Dr. Kari enjoys running, hiking, camping, and rock climbing with her husband, Jaron, her adorable son, Caden, and their dogs, Toby and Zoska.
Dr. David Harnick established Harnick Orthodontics in 1988, building a reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate care. After a successful career as a general dentist, he specialized in orthodontics, earning his Master’s in the Science of Dentistry from the University of the Pacific. Dr. Harnick is a board-certified orthodontist who has lectured nationally and received numerous accolades, including being voted Best Orthodontist in Albuquerque Magazine multiple times.
Dr. Harnick remains an integral part of the practice, offering mentorship and sharing his wealth of experience to support the team. Make sure to say hi when you see him at the office occasionally when he isn’t out enjoying his semi-retirement!
At Harnick Orthodontics, our incredible team works alongside Dr. Kari and Dr. Harnick to deliver the personalized, high-quality care our patients have come to expect. From the front desk to the treatment chair, every team member is dedicated to creating a welcoming, supportive environment where patients feel like part of the family. Just as the practice has been passed from father to daughter, our team embodies that same spirit of connection, collaboration, and commitment to excellence in everything we do.
An orthodontist is a dentist who has not only completed a graduate program in dentistry to receive their DDS or DMD (Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine), but has also gone through a competitive residency at a CODA-accredited orthodontic program for an additional 2-3 years to be trained specifically in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
Board certification goes a step further in demonstrating an orthodontist’s dedication to excellence in the field. The ABO Certification process requires the completion of peer-developed, externally validated written and clinical examinations. A Board Certified Orthodontist has reached this level of achievement by pursuing additional voluntary education and ongoing self-assessment.
Awards are cool. Yet, what’s even cooler than the awards we’ve won, is the word of mouth we’ve been able to spark from our current patients and our past patients. It’s this type of feedback that truly is the most treasured award.
"Dear Patients,
I am writing to share an important update about our practice. After much thought and consideration, I have made the very difficult decision to consolidate our two locations into one main office at Montgomery Pkwy. This was not a decision I made lightly, as I know how important convenience and continuity are for our patients and families.
Please know that my patients remain my top priority, and I want to ensure that no one feels left without support during this transition. To help with this, I worked out an arrangement with the new owner of the Golf Course Rd. office that will allow me to continue seeing patients there for a period of time after the transition.
Appointments at the Golf Course office will be limited.
Preference will be given to patients who began treatment at the Golf Course location.
Over time, most patients will transition fully to our Montgomery Pkwy office.
This arrangement was made with you in mind—to provide continuity of care and make the transition as smooth as possible.
I want to thank you for trusting us with your orthodontic care. I am committed to seeing you through your treatment and look forward to continuing your journey at our Montgomery Pkwy location.
If you have any questions about scheduling or the transition, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office.
With gratitude,
Kari Harnick Graeber DDS, MS
Harnick Orthodontics"
